PROFESSOR RON NABARRO, WINS 2009 WORLD TECHNOLOGY AWARD FOR DESIGN

New York - Professor Ron Nabarro, has been awarded a World Technology Award in design for his remarkable work and developments in his field. He received the award at the World Technology Awards ceremony on July 16, 2009 in New York City.

"Ron Nabarro has brought older age related needs and factors, as primary considerations into his research and work in the design of products, services, contents and mature lifestyle management," stated the award presenters.

"He helped companies and service providers to better understand and provide for the needs and requirements of older consumers. His design work stands out in the design profession where it seems that aging and old age remain neglected to the extent of discrimination."

"In the world of design it is quite difficult to find real humanistic values as real considerations. Prof. Nabarro preaches his design philosophy by teaching and working with young designers all over the world on 'age friendly design' (in many cases voluntarily) in order to teach them to 'think old' and understand this important market segment".

These World Technology Award winners and finalists are those individuals (in 20 categories) and companies or organisations (in 10 categories) who are - in the opinion of the WTN Fellows and Founding Members, through Awards voting process - doing the innovative work of "the greatest likely long-term significance" in their fields. They are those creating the 21st century. These results were announced from the stage at the gala World Technology Awards ceremony at the Time & Life Building in New York City at the conclusion of the two-day (15-16 July) World Technology Summit.

The World Technology Awards have been presented annually since 2000 to the outstanding innovators from each sector within the science and technology arena for innovative work of the greatest likely long-term significance - both as a way to honor those innovators, and as a vetting mechanism to determine the newest WTN members. Nominations come from both current individual members of the WTN as well as through submissions made by nominees or representatives acting on their behalf. Individual WTN member then vote their preferences from among the nomination pool.

The Awards are announced each year in a gala ceremony at the close of the annual World Technology Summit. Previous Winners of the World Technology Award in design were: Paola Antonelli, Jonathan Ive, Ross Lovegrove, Stefano Marzano, Issey Miyake and Bill Mogridge. Award categories range from biotechnology, space, energy, IT, through to etics, design and marketing communication. Other winners of the WTN award 2009 include Amazon, Facebook, Mayo Clinic and Utube.
